School Sports In Oatlands
We are proud to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports in school!
Children have the opportunity to participate in swimming in UCD, cycling and learning to use balance bikes, playing on the Olympic handball team, basketball team and football team. We are lucky to be close to Kilmacud Crokes and have great coaches who come to us to teach GAA.
Swimming
In line with the Primary School Curriculum, 1st to 6th class students go to the Olympic swimming pool in UCD for swimming lessons!
Cycling
Cycle Ireland provides cycling lessons for students in 6th class to prepare them for moving to secondary school. They bring bikes and helmets each week to teach the students important rules of the road and increase their confidence cycling.
Thank you to the parents council for their continued support sponsoring this.
Handball
The 6th class boys Olympic Handball team enjoyed a great day out at a Handball Blitz in the Oatlands Secondary School Sports Hall with visiting teams from other schools. The boys performed extremely well, especially considering they only took up the sport this year! Special mention goes to Osman Giray Coskun for scoring some super goals for Oatlands! The boys had a training session with a coach from the Olympic Handball Association earlier this month and picked up great tips on passing, shooting, and the importance of teamwork and communication out on the court. Well done to all the boys involved! A big thanks goes to Ms Healy for organising and preparing the team.
Balance Bikes
Thank you to our wonderful parents for donating a set of Balance Bikes for our Junior and Senior Infants to use to begin to learn how to cycle.

Basketball is one of our aftrerschooll clubs and througouht the year th children are given the opportunity to play friendly matches against schools across Dublin.

Well done to the 6th class girls of 2024 who reached the Dublin finals inthe FAI 5 a side competition.
Cumann na mBunscol
Each September our school competes in the Cumann na mBunscol. It is a mix of boys and girls and this we played 3 games against Brunner Primary School, Marlborough Street and St. Christophers of Haddington Road.
Each game was filled with great teamwork, determination and fair play. Well done to all our players for their commitment and enthusiasm throughout the term! A massive thank you to Mr. Hyland for giving his time each week to training the boys and girls.
GAA
We are lucky to be so close to our local club, Kilmacud Crokes. 1st and 2nd Class enjoy a 6 week block of sessions with the skilled trainers from Crokes on our new all-weather pitch, and have the added bonus of being invited down to Kilmacud Crokes itself for a match for the final session.
Rugby
Jonathan from Leinster Rugby delivers 4 sessions of touch rugby sessions during P.E.sessions for 2nd to 6th class students. He teaches the students the basics of rugby like passing backwards, how to play as a team and how to score a try.
Move Well, Move Often
Move Well, Move Often is a PDST initiative to improve physical wellbeing in school. Covering locomotive, stability and manipulative skills, children participated in a range of games and activities to improve their fitness. Our 6th Class students go around to the classes once a term to explain the new skill and demonstrate one of the games.
