Academics In Oatlands
Book Fair 2024
Oatlands Book Fair proved to be a massive success with parents spending over €5000 on books. This spending along with a generous donation from our Board of Management meant that we had over €5000 to spend on books for our school library. Thanks to Jana’s Bookland and Mr. Moloney for organising such a fantastic event.
Maths Masters
A huge congratulations to our amazing mathematicians from 6th class who came in second place (out of 20 schools) in the recent Maths Masters Competition. Our team was made up of Advit, Ayush, Eoin, Danny and Avyukt. This is a fantastic achievement and once again highlights the mathematical prowess of Oatlands students. Thanks to their teacher Mr. Moloney for getting the team prepared for the competition.

Maths Week 2024
A huge thank you to everyone involved in Maths Week 2024.There were many learning opportunities for the children. Well done to both sixth classes and their teachers for the work they put into hosting a wonderful ‘Maths City’ experience in the hall. There were riddles, maths trails, maths challenges, interactive games etc. throughout the week. Mr. McDonald provided plenty of challenging games and puzzles for both staff and pupils. We also ran a 2D Art Competition and lots of parents sent in photographs of ‘Maths in the Real World’ , these are much appreciated. On behalf of the Maths Team, Mr. McDonald, Ms. Ramsay, Ms. O’ Farrell and Mr. Lynch, thank you all!
Author's Visit
The boys and girls of Ms. Mayer’s and Mr. Moloney’s class were treated to a writing workshop from children’s author Fiona Longmuir. Fiona gave a great lesson, explaining where she gets her inspiration from and how she goes through the process of creating and writing a novel. The children were given some fantastic ideas to help with their spooky halloween stories.
Aistear in Infants
Aistear is the curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. It provides information for adults to help them plan for and provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences, so that all children can grow and develop as competent and confident learners within loving relationships with others. Aistear describes the types of learning (dispositions, values and attitudes, skills, knowledge, and understanding) that are important for children in their early years, and offers ideas and suggestions as to how this learning might be nurtured. The Framework also provides guidelines on supporting children’s learning through partnerships with parents, interactions, play, and assessment.
